The Department of Physics at Pusan National University has been established since 1951. We have built solid groups in condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, optics, particle physics, and statistical physics. The department offers degrees in Bachelor in Science (B.Sc.), Master in Science (M.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics. Through the degree programs, our undergraduate and graduate students are actively involved in various research activities in the frontier of physics, and they have a chance to learn diverse and comprehensive physics courses offered from the department. Currently, the department consists of 19 full-time faculties, 10 lecturers, two lab supervisors, three research professors, and two administrative staffs.
Our department hosts several institutes for research activity, support of our graduate program, and interdisciplinary research. The Center for Innovative Physicist Education and Research is funded by the Ministry of Education. As a part of nation’s Brain Korea 21 Four program, the center is our primary resource for supporting our graduate students. Extreme Physics Institute and Research Center for Dielectric and Advanced Matter Physics foster interdisciplinary research between our faculties and other PNU departments. In addition, our department secured funds for developing quantum information sciences, and founded two research centers: Quantum Matter Core-Facility and Quantum Sensor Research Center.
